5" Compass Rose with Border Bone Box

Availability: In stock (4)

The art of scrimshaw kept sailors occupied on years long voyages in search of whales.  Using the bones and teeth of the massive creatures, sailors would etch designs and darken them with squid ink, lamp black or even tea.  These items would also provide the men with an extra source of income when they reached port.  Our version of this mariners' art form is executed on boxes made of Ox bone featuring the compass rose design.
